Less Screentime, Get Active!
It is easy for children (and adults) to get too comfortable with using their mobile devices, watching TV, playing video games, and surfing social media. After over a year of virtual instruction, e-meetings, and being glued to a screen, let’s make it a priority to encourage children to go outside and get moving this summer... and let's do so with them.
Did you know? Children need at least one hour of physical activity each day - either structured or free play.
What are some fun ways to get kids active during the summer?
Create an obstacle course
Walk in the park or neighborhood
Encourage children to help with yard work or in-house activities
Biking or rollerbladding
You can think outside the box to get your kids active during the summer. It is okay for them to enjoy technology for a few hours, but make sure they are moving around daily.
Meanwhile, adults should avoid a sedentary lifestyle. Though the majority of us maintain "desk" jobs, it is important for your health and quality of life to move throughout the day. Research shows that one hour of moderate to intense exercise per day is not enough to balance out the remainder of the day spent in a chair. Make it a priority to get up at least once an hour for several minutes.
